PlayerUnkown's Battlegrounds benefits from Microsoft Partnership
by Keith Streetman/GalacticPilgrim
After selling 10 million copies on steam in early access, it was announced at E3 2017 that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds was going to be published by Microsoft for the Xbox platform. It isn't entirely uncommon for a title to receive different publishing on different platforms, (such as Tomb Raider which was originally an Xbox Exclusive but was later brought to playstation and published by Square Enix), but typically they don't do much more than optimize the port of the game for the particular platform. However, the Player Unkown himself, Brian Greene, has stated that after hanging out with some of the Sea of Thieves guys at a recent xbox event, and rare having proclaimed their love for the game, that they will be lending the technology used in Rare's Sea of Thieves to create water to studio Bluehole to be used in Battlegrounds.

Hopefully we see more cooperation between Bluehole and microsoft's other in house developers. Maybe in the future we will see some Halo cosmetic items for Battlegrounds or perhaps Brain Greene and his team will lend their mastery knowledge of Battle Royale to Microsoft for future games and modes. Imagine a more battle royale focused mode for sea of thieves which, while it does have combat, its main focus is exploration and shenanigans. Perhaps other studios of Microsoft will chime in such as 343, helping to combat or map design.

With Battlegrounds rapid success on PC and its upcoming release on Xbox, this is great news for the already highly acclaimed game and it leaves players are critics alike asking the same question "Will we have time for any other games?"
